My name is Emma, and my Burlesque name is Sassy Von Mystique.
Over the years I have done belly dancing and fitness classes, but it was a couple of years ago my good friend said to me come to Burlesque with me, it will be fun she said! I had so many excuses, I’m a mum, and I am menopausal and my hysterectomy scar is so big. But I went. And I loved it!
I joined Burlesque Chair Dance classes locally and what I loved was that it is so welcoming of all women, regardless of size, shape and ability. It’s a group of real women having fun and so much laughter. It’s like group therapy but you come out with a new dance routine and some new crazy trick you never thought you could achieve. The confidence grows, in the beginning everything seems overwhelming, but as you go on, and crack your first dance and then the second, you feel like you have achieved something for yourself.
Fast forward a couple of years, and a very long lock down, and here I am. Completed the instructor training and ready to start teaching in Ilkeston.
