Hi I’m Kate aka Mistress Sapphire Von Tazieff, I qualified a year ago and opened my classes in October 2016. This year I hope to upgrade to my Level 2 in November. The Pussycats took part in their first annual show in June and I cant begin to express how proud I was on the night. And even managed to dance my first ever solo without becoming a nervous wreck.
I thought what better way to tell you all about us, than by getting some of the Peterborough Pussycats to speak for themselves!!!
I started Burlesque Chair Dance in November, as I thought it might be fun and a good way of getting a bit of exercise. What I actually got was a lot of laughs, firmer thighs and a lot more confidence in myself. The girls I dance with, and our wonderful instructor Kate, are fast becoming some good friends. Even if I’m not feeling very sociable when I walk in, I always feel better when I leave. The dances are, for the most part, fun to do and easy to pick up. I have recommended the group class to others, and will continue to sing Kate’s praises to anyone who’ll listen! BCD is not just fabulous fun, it’s an extended family! – Amy
I joined Burlesque Chair Dance with a friend to help me gain confidence. I’m not sure about outside of class, but at class I change into a confident sassy burlesque performer (or so I’ve been told). Kate has really gone above and beyond to help my confidence grow even managing to get me up on stage in June at the annual shows, front and centre (and also very pregnant but that bit wasn’t Kate’s doing). I was worried class would be full of slim, sexy, judgy women but everyone was so welcoming and it’s such a laugh that it’s easy to forget we are exercising and now I have new friends. – Daisy J Meloni
Since joining the Peterborough Burlesque group back in November, I have nothing but positive words to offer. I have found my self confidence has grown since joining and can unleash my inner sass! Every time I go to burlesque I always come out of the session feeling happy, confident and refreshed. Our instructor, the lovely and oh so sassy Kate, is patient during every session and will always make sure everyone is comfortable during each routine. – Sadie
What can I say about Burlesque Chair Dance? Has it changed my life? Yes, yes it has. Being a stay-at-home mum who suffers from depression and a husband working nights, socialising was always my last priority. Then a friend introduced me to BCD, at first I was quite scared due to being very shy and anxious but after the first few weeks I really started to open up and come out of my shell, Thursdays are now my favourite day of the week, having the hour to be with my little burlesque family, escaping reality for just a short moment…. It has changed my life that much that I am now training to become an instructor myself so I can help other women/gay men to feel the way Kate and BCD has made me feel. – Mustang Kitty
When I first began Burlesque Chair Dance I had no idea what to expect. I felt like a fish out of water. I never had a sexy streak in me. I was self conscious about my weight and never thought almost a year later I would be wandering around in hot pants and fishnets. Our instructor Kate (Mistress Sapphire Von Tazieff) had always been so supportive of every single one of us to ensure we understand the routine and to make sure we always feel at ease, I couldn’t ask for a better instructor – Ruby Fantome.
Burlesque Chair Dance isn’t just a fun way to keep fit. It is fun, and you will improve fitness, but its so much more than that. For hour a week, in my fishnets and up on a chair. I’m not a mum wth pnd and suffering from a sleepless night. I’m not trying to sort the kids, or deal with work stuff, or training, or an of the stresses of life. I’m Jen, and I’m dancing. I might not be the smallest in the class, I might not be able to move the way some of the others do, but it doesn’t matter. Burlesque is not one size fits all, It’s you, in your own body, feeling empowered and sexy. It’s an attitude, it’s holding your head high and strutting your stuff. And the classes may only be at set times, but burlesque is always there. It’s realising you’re in clicking in Asda because they’re playing our song, or sitting on the bus and suddenly being aware of your foot placement, because “tits, teeth and toes ladies!” It’s noticing you walk taller, and you feel more confident. I joined Mistress Sapphire Von Tazieff and her Peterborough Pussycats about a year ago now, and it was the best thing I could have done for me. We’re not just a bunch of girls doing a shimmy on a chair. We’re a family! – Jen
Burlesque for me is fun way to get fit, no matter what your age or size the routine can work around your abilities. I look forward to going every week. Would highly recommend burlesque to anyone who wants to lose weight or get fit but hates gyms – Tina
Peterborough Pussycats
That’s who we are
Come here and join us
By foot or by car
We dance and we hope
Our moves are rehearsed
It’s a blast for our Sapphire
All hers are reversed!
Be who you want
Shimmy and jiggle
Its not any old dance class
And it’s more than a giggle
From right to the left
Front to the back
At the start we may struggle
To keep it on track
There’s always support here
Not only in tights
Burlesque Chair Dance
