Hey, I’m Claire aka Sugar Storm!
I started Burlesque Chair Dance Classes 3 years ago (January 2017), with Jade (Miniature Bliss) our Worksop Instructor, and then joined Donna’s (Boss Lady) Yummy Mummies class as daytime classes fit in much better with my childcare needs.
I did drama as a child and when I started Burlesque Chair Dance I had not been on stage since being 15/16 years old!
Burlesque Chair Dance is the first dance class I’ve ever taken, these classes have encouraged my cheeky side and given me the opportunity to do things that I probably would never have done; performing on stage in front of 300 people, taking part in a Fire Walk (naked!) for UK Pride and turning up to new places – on my own!
Over the years I had gained weight, and whilst most would assume, I was happy and confident; I wasn’t! I hated what I saw in the mirror, I was in a toxic marriage that did nothing for my self-esteem, and I felt stuck and miserable.
Fast forward 5/6 years I divorced and reunited with an old flame from school who encouraged me to go along to my first Burlesque Chair Dance Class. A friend had told me about the classes in the school playground, I was definitely intrigued. I went straight home and told the other half all about it, he encouraged me every step of the way, said it would be good for me. He wasn’t wrong! So, Saturday afternoon came along, I pulled out the leggings that I’d never worn, found a baggy vest top to hide under, and off I went for my first BCD class.
Naturally I sat at the back of the class lol, but I loved it! I’d found something for me that I enjoyed and would help me get fitter! Within a few short months I found myself ordering that dance kit and yes; even the hot pants and fishnets! I began sitting at the front of the class gaining new confidence with each passing week. I even signed up for the Annual Show and Open Stage Night during that same year!
I’ve lost 3 and a half stone since starting BCD classes and believe I’m the fittest I’ve ever been!
I want to help and inspire other women to get fit, build confidence and feel great in your own skin!
There’s no “one size fits all” with Burlesque Chair Dance!
